This July, the grand halls and quiet courtyards of Udaipur’s City Palace have come alive, not with royal ceremonies, but with voices rediscovering Rajasthan’s deep and beautiful past. From 16 to 22 July 2025, the Rajasthani Bhasha Academy, in collaboration with the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation and the University of Texas at Austin, presents the Third Edition of its Rajasthani Summer School.
This isn’t your typical academic event. It’s a rare opportunity for thinkers, writers, artists, language lovers, and culture enthusiasts to experience Rajasthan’s literature, art, and architecture through close observation, field visits, and deep conversations. It’s about touching history, not just reading about it.
Participants engage with ancient texts, wall paintings, temple carvings, and forgotten poetry all in the very spaces where they were once created and celebrated. Through guided sessions and explorations, they uncover the stories hidden in manuscripts, understand the meaning behind devotional songs, and see how language shaped the landscape.
The program is shaped by a brilliant faculty including Prof. Dalpat Rajpurohit, Prof. Dipti Khera, Prof. Cynthia Talbot, Prof. Ashwini Deo, Prof. Tanuja Kothiyal, Prof. Madhav Hada, Prof. Richard Williams, and Prof. Vishesh Kothari. Each brings their unique insight into Rajasthan’s layered history from language and literature to philosophy, politics, art, and everyday life.
Only 70 people are a part of this week-long exploration. It’s more than a course, it's a cultural experience. For anyone who feels a connection to heritage, poetry, or the living language of the land, this summer school offers something unforgettable.
In the palace of kings, a new generation of storytellers will gather not to remember the past, but to keep it alive.
