Ajay Porwal (Latika Textiles-Owner)
Ajay, Secretary of Udaipur Chamber of Commerce, Adhyax at Bada Bazaar Vyapaar Sangh, and Associate wholesale cloth merchant.
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.”
Ajay was born and brought up at Udaipur. He is the son of Kishan Lal Ji Porwal, who was a renowned cloth manufacturer and salesperson of his time. When Ajay was just 7 years old, his father died, leaving him to take care of the entire family. This was one of the gravest times in his life. But he did not give up due to the unfortunate circumstances and tried his very best to cope up in the best way possible. Ajay completed his high school education from GuruNanak Vidyalaya.
At that time, he worked as a daily-wage worker, doing a cleaning job at a store named Hind Saari at Bapu Bazaar. He then pursued a BCom course from BN University. During his time there, Ajay was highly influenced by the General Secretary of Youth Congress, Ajay Kushwaha.
In due course of time, Ajay’s life improved, and he learned the ropes of salesmanship in Kota. He then established a textile store named Latika textile.
In 1990, Ajay got married and even started to expand his business. Along with textiles, Ajay got a vast inventory of shawls, blankets, and mattresses, which he purchased from Amritsar or Ludhiana. His store is amongst one of the renowned clothing stores in the city. Ajay, under the supervision of Gulab Singh Ji Shaktawat, he participated in the 2004 elections but lost with 11 votes. This according to him is a matter of cheating and had a great impact on all his future endeavors.
With the advancement of technology and the digitization of the commercial sector, Ajay eventually understood the importance of media interaction. He left his textile business which otherwise proved to be profitable to him in 2012, where he earned 12 crores per annum. Lamenting the loss of his business, Ajay exclaimed that the industry is on a downtrodden path and is wound up in a deep web of loans that have affected the growth of one flourishing textile industry. After his exit from the business, Ajay started working with the Hinduja company and diverted his mind towards cable and news channels.
The tale of his victory is that even after consecutive failures and removal in 2009, Ajay won the elections by 1039 votes in 2014. During the worldwide pandemic, Ajay worked at Indra Rasoi and fed 10,000 people in the containment zone and the patients affected by COVID19.
Ajay advises the younger generation that only the people who are willing to work honestly and dedicate their time to the upliftment of the community should join politics and not the ones who merely wish to fulfill their personal needs. He also worked at Indra Rasoi and fed 10,000 people in the containment zone and the sufferers of this pandemic COVID19.
Ajay considers his father as his role model. For him, experience and education in any field is the prerequisite for better development. Though he was not fortunate enough to feel the physical presence of his father, Ajay after hearing about his integrity and ability to handle tough circumstances was highly influenced. His father’s stories provide him with a strong will to face any challenge that is yet to come in his life, making Ajay a personality truly significant for our society.
